Non Linear Assessment of Musical Consonance
نویسندگان
چکیده
The position of intervals and the degree of musical consonance can be objectively explained by temporal series formed by mixing two pure sounds covering an octave. This result is achieved by means of Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA) without considering neither overtones nor physiological hypotheses. The obtained prediction of a consonance can be considered a novel solution to Galileo’s conjecture on the nature of consonance. It constitutes an objective link between musical performance and listeners’ hearing activity. c © Electronic Journal of Theoretical Physics. All rights reserved.

In search of musical fitness on consonance
After the generation of a sample of musical compositions, the rules which gave birth to these groups of compositions have been codified into a genetic code and these families, which had the capability of adapting to the environment and to reproduce themselves have been selected. The fitness the authors were in search for was about musical consonance. In this paper we present some results which ...
متن کاملFunctional organization for musical consonance and tonal pitch hierarchy in human auditory cortex
Pitch relationships in music are characterized by their degree of consonance, a hierarchical perceptual quality that distinguishes how pleasant musical chords/intervals sound to the ear. The origins of consonance have been debated since the ancient Greeks. To elucidate the neurobiological mechanisms underlying these musical fundamentals, we recorded neuroelectric brain activity while participan...
متن کاملTonal consonance parameters link microscopic and macroscopic properties of music exposing a hidden order in melody
Consonance is related to the perception of pleasantness arising from a combination of sounds and has been approached quantitatively using mathematical relations, physics, information theory, and psychoacoustics. Tonal consonance is present in timbre, musical tuning, harmony, and melody, and it is used for conveying sensations, perceptions, and emotions in music. It involves the physical propert...
متن کاملSubcortical representation of musical dyads: Individual differences and neural generators
When two notes are played simultaneously they form a musical dyad. The sensation of pleasantness, or "consonance", of a dyad is likely driven by the harmonic relation of the frequency components of the combined spectrum of the two notes. Previous work has demonstrated a relation between individual preference for consonant over dissonant dyads, and the strength of neural temporal coding of the h...
متن کاملMusical Consonance: The Importance of Harmonicity
A recent study suggests that musical consonance is based on harmonicity, a preference that reflects the central role of harmonicity in auditory perception.
